How to stay motivated through the Coronavirus.

The majority of us will have now had some of our events, targets and/or goals affected by the coronavirus and subsequently, the ban on racing and mass participation events. This year is going to be a tough year for cycling races with the priority needing to be placed on people’s health, creating some tough calls for race organisers.

However, it is still important to realise that there will still be more events in the latter half of this year, with many of the races being postponed rather than cancelled. This makes it super important to continue with your training so that once the world comes out the other side and the races do start to run, you are ready.

This is a crucial time to work out how you are going to maintain your motivation by refocusing, amending and possibly creating new targets/goals. One of the greatest things about cycling is that there are so many branches of the sport with ways to push and challenge yourself. Together with a coach, you can set these targets. What do we mean by these?

Whilst at the moment, the races and events that many people were targeting have been cancelled, they may be reinstated at a later date and can still be used as a drive towards finding your motivation. With the technology that we now have at our disposal, the cyclists among us that need to keep the fire within them to race have the option of Zwift races and Strava segment hunting! You could even set yourself up with an Everesting on Zwift!

For the non-racers, there are a huge range of options to keep the motivation alive. Cycling is very much a quantative sport which means that the possibilities to set yourselves goals are endless! The data that we have at our disposal means we can set mileage goals, speed goals, time goals and fitness goals. You could be aiming to complete a 50-mile ride, a century, a new maximum speed, a higher average speed, new fastest time over a set distance or even a new power PB!

With the setbacks to our seasons, training and races now is the time to make sure that you renew your motivation and find something to drive you onto that next training session. The loss of these events will mean that you are going to have to find your motivation from within yourself, which creates the perfect opportunity to find guidance from a coach who will support you with your training to help you hit your markers along the way.

With this all in mind, if you would like any support, advise or to ask any questions as a client or fellow cyclist then please feel free to drop us a message!

Make sure you keep your training moving, to keep YOU moving.
